Storytelling module in Tableau 8.2
Storytelling module in Tableau 8.2
The final version of Tableau 8.2, available on PC and Mac, have been released a couple of days ago. You certainly already know it as Tableau spread the news almost everywhere on the web. New improvements, Mac version, and the famous storytelling capabilities we talked in this blog since more than a year. For more information about these storytelling capabilities, you can refer to the blog post we published… two months ago ☺
In the same time, Tableau Software released a white paper you can download on their website for free, focusing on storytelling.
You will not learn many things about how to create your stories in Tableau 8.2, but some great ideas and thoughts about storytelling in general.

Here is a compilation of my favorite quotes from this white paper:

- “The universe is made of stories, not atoms” – Muriel Rukeyser (1913-1980); even if it’s scientifically false, it’s a great quotation!
- “…Throughout history, we have developed better tools and medium for telling [stories], such as printed books, movies and comics”
- “Stories add embellishments that make data more memorable”
- “Data tells you what’s happening, Stories tell you why it matters”
- In 335 BC, “Aristotle claimed that all stories have a beginning, middle, and end”
- “We stitch data points together to turn them into a cohesive, step-by-step story”
- “[Stories] are excellent tool for passing knowledge from one person to another”
- “Dashboards tell you what’s happening, but stories explain why”
- “Stories motivate action”
